Everyone needs a break sometimes – including people with disability and the families and carers who support them. Under the NDIS, respite is usually funded as Short Term Accommodation (STA). Here is how it works and how to arrange respite in Orange, NSW.

What is Short Term Accommodation (STA)?

STA is funding for a short stay away from home, including accommodation, personal care, food and activities during the stay. It is generally used for short stays (often up to 14 days at a time) and is funded through the Core Supports (Assistance with Daily Life) part of an NDIS plan. Check your own plan, or ask your support coordinator or plan manager, to confirm what is included.

Who is respite for?

What happens during a respite stay?

Before a stay, the provider learns about the person’s routines, health needs, likes and dislikes. During the stay, support workers help with personal care and daily tasks and support the person to enjoy activities in and around Orange.

What is the difference between STA and MTA?

STA is for short stays. Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is a separate NDIS support for people who need somewhere to live for a longer period while they wait for their long-term home to be ready.
